What is DY?

In a nutshell, the Discipleship Year is about growing as disciples of Jesus, learning how to serve Him and His Kingdom with the whole of your life, for the whole of your life. It will take you on a life-changing journey of discovery and adventure, where you’ll be inspired, get practical Kingdom experience, make life-long friendships, and have a lot of fun in the process!

Who is it for?

The Discipleship Year is for ANYONE aged 18-24 looking to:

Grow confidence in who God has made you to be
Discover the purpose He has for your life
Get involved by serving in a local church
Discover, exercise and nurture your spiritual gifts and passions
Be challenged to step out, risk and see God work through you
Experience the adventure of overseas mission

Where is it based?

We are based at a large Anglican Church in Poole on the south coast of England, right by a number of beautiful beaches with plenty of water sports and a captivating coastline.

We also are excited to be working with our partner placement churches:
The Lantern Church, Merley
Christ Church, Creekmoor

How long is it for?

The year runs from Monday 5th September 2022 until Sunday 23rd July 2023.

What are we looking for?

At SML Poole we're looking for committed followers of Jesus, aged between 18-24 in September, looking to develop themselves personally, impact the local community and invest in the lives of others. It doesn't matter if you've been a Christian for 1 week or the whole of your life! All that does matter is that you love Jesus and want to love Him more!

What will it look like?

Each week is broken down in to 8 hours of teaching, and 12-16 hours of serving in your chosen ministry area, this may include Sundays. Find our more about each of our ministry areas here.

The rest of the time is there for you to be able to find paid employment alongside the Discipleship Year. Throughout the year we will spend time together worshipping, praying, listening, laughing and learning. As we go through the year there will be retreat days, residential weekends and plenty of opportunity to get stuck in and serve in the Church.

How much does it cost?

The Discipleship Year costs £1,000 which covers all of your teaching, training and resources, including two national Discipleship Year weekends away (October and January). We don't want the financial side to be a barrier so if this will be difficult for you, or should you want to discuss a financial arrangement, please get in touch with us below and we can have a further conversation.
